SAFER INTERNET DAY - SID
Safer Internet Day: A Collective Commitment for a Healthier Internet.
Throughout the years, Safer Internet Day (SID) has evolved into a prominent event on the online security calendar.
Originating from the European SafeBorders project in 2004 and embraced by the Insafe network as one of its initial initiatives in 2005, SID has transcended its traditional geographic boundaries and is presently observed in approximately 180 countries and territories globally. Addressing issues spanning from cyberbullying to social media and digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to foster awareness of emerging online challenges and current concerns.
The Safer Internet Centres and Safer Internet Day Committees, associated with Insafe, constitute a European network. Each national center executes awareness and education campaigns, operates a helpline, and collaborates closely with young people to ensure a multi-stakeholder, evidence-based approach to shaping a better internet. In 2009, to broaden the initiative beyond Europe, the notion of Safer Internet Day Committees was introduced, reinforcing connections with countries outside the network and promoting a synchronized global campaign. Over 150 global Safer Internet Day Committees (and those striving for committee status) collaborate closely with the Safer Internet Day coordination team, situated at the core of the European Union in Brussels.
